However, today it seems to process files much slower than it once did, and some of the old features are buggy, or simply not present. I like to do full backups using its built-in feature. And I usually dictate a few quick tutorials to my father, about how to use the program, so that he can be more helpful with it (I know I can’t do everything by myself).
Of course, building up a collection of images is just one of the many ways the software can be useful. Adding perspective, switching backgrounds and resizing images are all easy to do. The program’s image adjustment tabs allow you to obtain professional quality results right from the start. I’ve even found myself using Photoshop for simple, everyday tasks. If I am considering a recent action shot, I make sure my camera is properly adjusted before starting to edit. And if it is a just a simple photograph to be cropped, I’ll convert it from any of my cameras and then move it to Photoshop, format it, edit it and then save it back in the right format for the application.
In order to actually make substantial changes, I tend to. If I decide to bring in an object from a different image, move it around, and then place it in the right spot, I often combine that action with an adjustment. There is an editing chain that can quickly make a difference. For example, I often use the Color Correction tool in order to bring out details in an image. I offset the levels so that all of the highlight points are slightly darker and all of the shadow points are slightly lighter than it looks to my eyes. This is because the gray on my monitor is not a perfect match with what my eyes are seeing. I then apply a bit more saturation or lightness to the image. After that, it is a matter of moving objects around. At that point, I often make images look more like a film image by opening it into the Film Factory tab, bringing in the Warm and the Cool Tones, then adjusting the Separation Mask and the Contrast and maybe even create a small poster from it.
